What building Olympr taught us
Olympr is a live dashboard for Australian skilled migration data that we built and run. The data is public, but it is scattered across government pages in different formats, and people planning a visa end up keeping their own spreadsheets. That is the same problem most businesses have with their own data.
The charts were the easy part. Most of the work went into the layer underneath: getting source data in reliably, cleaning it, keeping it fresh and showing people what changed without making them read a table. We scope client software the same way. The plumbing is where the risk sits, so it gets looked at first.
The second lesson was scope. Olympr answers the handful of questions people ask most, clearly, and links out for the rest. A first version of custom software should do the same.

Yes. You own the code repository, the hosting account and the documentation, all set up in your name. There is no lock-in to IMME after launch, and another team can pick the work up.
Can you work with the systems we already use?
Usually, yes. Most accounting, CRM, booking and practice tools have an API, and custom software is often the layer that connects them. We confirm what access each tool allows during discovery, before the build is scoped around it.
What if off-the-shelf software would do the job?
Then we will tell you. Custom software makes sense when your workflow is the advantage or the workarounds cost more than a build. If a product you can subscribe to today fits, that is the cheaper answer.
